This site shows the work of photographer Jürgen Freund and book/documentary producer Stella Chiu-Freund. Together they are in constant search for the most beautiful images to photograph either from Australia or in exotic places around the world - underwater or on land.
This website is a story and picture source for magazines and professional photo users. Most of the stock material you will see is about the marine environment but you will also find travel and landscape images as well. Aside from wildlife and nature photography, Jürgen & Stella also work on environmental and conservation issues where Jürgen's stock images hosts a wide variety of legal and illegal fishing practices from Asia - from dynamite fishing to shark hunting, to dried sea cucumbers and seahorses for the Asian market.
Images are taken with a variety of professional cameras e. g. 35 mm, digital and 6cm x 12 cm panoramics.
How to find photos?
We have endeavored to create an easy to search database for our growing collection of images. Click Search Photos in the menu bar. As you can see there are numerous categories to browse. Each category has one or several sub categories to make image identification easier. It also gives you an idea what kind of images are currently in the database. You can also enter keywords in the search box to narrow your choices. We have embedded keywords into all the image collections to respond to more selected searches. The scope of your search results is determined by your selection of keywords. Please use plural terms Most of our images are catalogued using plural terms. We also only use the english language, except for the latin scientific names of the natural world.
The Lightbox
The Lightbox is your collection of images. You may add up to 30 images to your lightbox. If you wish to iicense an image or a set of images in your lightbox please email the lightbox to us or if the number of chosen images exceeds 30 just send us a list with picture numbers at freundimages@gmail.com

Breaking News in October 2007
First place winner in the OCEANS category of Nature’s Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards 2007 competition in the USA.
One of the most prestigious photo contests in the world, drawing over 17,000 entries from photographers in 26 countries, the NBPWSRI Awards competition showcases the very best in nature photography today. Jürgens ’s image; along with 60 other winning and highly honored images will be on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC, beginning October 30, 2007 and will remain open to the public for six months.
And yet another major award in October 2007.
Jürgen won special commendation for another minke whale image in the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition in the category "Animal Portraits". Jürgen and Stella attended the awards celebration on October 24, 2007 in the London Museum of Natural History. The image was chosen out of more than 32,000 submissions from amateur and professional photographers in 78 countries.
